What’s a Signature?

Bead crafted by Paul:

The question for each of us is how to demonstrate something useful to ourselves and to society.  There does not have to be economic gain, but rather the pure expression of self.  This expression is an illustration of the sharing of knowledge.  The demonstration of software tools that aid in this expression also show potential clients that we have the core competency to design, build and use these tools like Topic Maps, and collaborative e-forums.

For example, Bob or Peter might develop a web based system for expressing basic intellectual work and interacting virtually with a small group of students.  Alex has a perception about how a computer science company can be

developed and run.  In each case, the primary issue is in finding and creating an ecosystem of social processes that support this expression.

Creating a format for the concept of a Bead Game is not an easy task - particularly in light of the political wisdom that is enforced all the time regarding what is "practical" to do.  I realize, as you do, that at this time there does not exist an ecosystem of social processes supporting the notion that has been laid out at:

By practical, one often means "directed at causing income in one of the standard ways".  But not all of us can or will express our basic life's work as a means to gain economically.  It seems that the bead game, if it is to be developed, is as much for those who have a non-commercial interest as for those who feel that commercialization is the core to being "practical".  In the face of the current success of commercialism, non-commercial ways to express a basic signature might be needed today more that yesterday.

I am slowing adjusting the web site to have a more standard profile.
